Gizaw, A: Alternative Basic Education in Benishangul Gumuz R

The world is now in a rush to address certain international educational goals. And it has been clear that the formal means is not enough and compatible to address the educational needs of many children and adults in different parts of the world. Thus, non-formal means of addressing educational needs have been innovated and employed since the 1960‘s worldwide. Alternative Basic Education (ABE) is an example of such innovations in the field of education. It has been a dominant practice at least for the last two decades in different parts of the world. And it has been adopted in the Ethiopian Education System since about 10 years ago. In Benishangul-Gumuz Region, it has been utilized for the last seven years. Thus, this book is an attempt to make an overview of the status, successes, challenges and prospects of this trendy educational system in some selected districts of Metekel Zone of Benishangul-Gumuz Region, Ethiopia.
