Jeddah..and the genius of the place

This book begins by presenting a methodological dimension of what has been written about the human and cultural history of Jeddah before presenting the system (the genius of the place) to understand the different dimensions of Jeddah‘s character by refuting the elements of this system and understanding the interactive relationship between the site and the place. This work belongs to a cognitive trend that seeks to clarify the status of Jeddah and its cultural and spiritual depth by working to fill the cognitive gap about it by analyzing the studies and information available to us about its cultural, spiritual and social history using modern schools of thought that allow for the connection between the scientific and the social, as well as linking comprehensive geography with history; as they are two twins of one origin that complement and merge with each other. The book employs the methods of different sciences in the research and culminates in citing the Holy Quran, Prophetic Hadiths, poetry, popular zajal and the opinions of philosophers. The book then presents an in-depth study of three historical stages witnessed by Jeddah that demonstrated the genius of the place.The first paper: Prehistoric and historical eras, and discussing what has been reached in the sciences of excavations and the efforts of archaeologists. The second paper: The bloody events in the middle of the ninth century Ten and analysis of its deep causes and Jeddah‘s victory over colonial power. The third paper: Cultural and spiritual life in the nineteenth century that established Jeddah as the home of Islamic tolerance. The book is based on documents, pictures and maps published for the first time and investigates places and refutes common myths in the history of Jeddah while taking into account documentation and academic control. In conclusion, the book presents hypotheses and raises questions for researchers and calls for raising the banner of science and modernity.
