Blue Flame

This book, compiled after the death of Kahlil Gibran, contains a number of letters and a telegram Gibran sent to May Ziadeh while he was in New York. The book is titled "The Blue Flame" after the last letter Gibran wrote to her inspired the compiler‘s choice of title. This letter, as was typical of Gibran‘s style, was concise, expressive, and symbolic. It depicts an outstretched hand with a blue flame emanating from it, inscribed "From Gibran to May," and dated March 26, 1931. This indicates that it was the last thing Gibran wrote, just two weeks before his death. The love that blossomed between Kahlil Gibran and May Ziadeh was a rare, Platonic love, unparalleled in history, especially in the history of literature, and unlike any other love story. A love story that lasted nearly twenty years, during which they met only through letters, books, newspapers, thought, and spirit. They were companions in a hazy imagination, with Gibran in America in the west and May in Egypt in the east, separated by seven thousand miles of "flat seas," as Gibran tells us in one of his letters. This book is for lovers of epistolary literature who are curious to learn about the world of these two great writers.
