A Voyage to Arcturus

David Lindsay‘s A Voyage to Arcturus is one of the strangest achievements of early twentieth-century speculative fiction: a cosmic journey in which Maskull travels to Tormance, a planet of Arcturus, only to undergo successive transformations of body, perception, and moral certainty. Its prose is stark, incantatory, and often deliberately disorienting, closer to metaphysical allegory and Gnostic vision than to conventional adventure.
